Best Books for Boys

I'm always on the look-out for books that my boy readers will love!  We've noticed an unfortunate disparity between boy and girl readers and writers at our school. Our data shows that many of our boys are falling short of our state's expectations in reading and writing and we are working to close that gap.

There are many resources out there that you can read to find ways to engage boys in writing.  My favorites are by Ralph Fletcher.

But boy readers are also a puzzle.  In the upper grades there are many boy readers who just plain don't like to read. They don't identify themselves as readers and they haven't found 'that' book yet.  I try my hardest to put books in these boy's hands that maybe, just maybe, will light that spark. So, here are some of my classroom's favorite boy books.  Maybe one of them will hook one of your boys and turn him into a lifelong reader too.

  1. I saw your post in my Google Reader and had to see what books you recommended. My class loves the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series and we have just discovered the Andy Griffiths books.
